How many of you have read Eat, Pray, Love & have dreamt of blissfully drifting away to the 3 beautiful countries starting with ‘I’ — Italy to fall in Love & indulge, India to seek Spirituality & Balance at an Ashram from 3am-noon, Indonesia for a Simple life on motorbikes & learning the culture?
Disregard the ‘I’s. Have you dreamt of the idealistic notion of quitting your day-to-day job, to stop chasing after the never-ending Rat Race, which is in hopes to one day buy that white picketed fence house with your imaginary husband, with that shiny car you never wanted, a smiling family & 2 dogs.. all before actually living a life of your own? While there’s nothing wrong with wanting all those things, society and many of our parents make us feel that we must want those things right after college. Traveling the world seems to be out of touch, out of reality and certainly taboo for girls and women to do.
If you only follow what you’re ‘suppose to do’, it sounds like an anxiety attack waiting to happen. Gilbert made millions of women realize that their dream is not so far-fetched. And that time does not wait. She inspired me to travel India alone. She inspired me to write, to explore, to sync in with the locals and be open. Open to Change. Open to new perspectives. Thanks to her, I’m a Wanderlust for life.
My First Published Article!
2 Weeks ago, I received an email from a writer named Amanda at In-touch Weekly.
She had found my blog through the internet & wanted a phone interview on how “Eat Pray Love”, the award-winning book by Elizabeth Gilbert, had changed my life upon reading it and the inspiration it gave me to start Traveling the World. I read it back in 2007 and it definitely changed my perspective on life goals in general, my views on traveling and everything else in between and out.
Amanda also wanted a story each in the department of “Eat”, “Pray”, “Love” which I wrote elaborate stories on. I had a feeling that the “Pray” story would be the winner. “Eat”? Sure, I ate practically anything and everything offered to me as I’ll try everything once, ok maybe twice. Street carts, insects, intestines, spices from around the world, things that move, things that come from the ground, etc etc. “Love”? Can’t say I ever fell in love traveling, although I’ve certainly met hot men around the world and falling in love with precious children everywhere.
On July 21st, a newly issued In-touch weekly hit the stand with my published story on “Pray”:
Julia Roberts & Javier Bordem are currently in production for Eat Pray Love. They’re actually filming at locations that Gilbert wrote about — in Italy, India & Indonesia. Let’s Drop in!
