On your next trip to Maui, your first grub stop must be to South Maui Fish Company for the freshest Poke Bowl! With the establishment being ranked #1 out of 675 restaurants in Maui on TripAdvisor, I had to taste the hype! Once I hopped in my rented mini-SUV from the Kahului airport, I drove 20 minutes down Kihei Road where I located the Food Truck. It is conveniently located in an unassuming shopping center behind the 76 gas station and across the street from the beach. One could easily pass by and assume ‘just another food truck‘ but they’d be completely wrong.

At the prime time of 12:30pm, there were about 6 people ahead of me in line (10 minute wait). Just by the truck is a dozen friendly smiles sitting at the sectioned off garden area chomping on fish, sunbathing on their lunch break. The BBQ man and his grill is attached right by the truck as they grill fish for the cooked options. The menu is simple, which makes the decision-making that much easier.

South Maui Fish Company always serves the fresh catch of the day. Possible Options: Ahi, Marlin, Ono, Mahi, or Opaka.

Poke Bowl

I ordered the 1/2 lb Ahi Poke Bowl, with the Spicy option (other option is ‘Traditional’ for a sweeter flavor). Topped with chopped jalapeños, tobiko, spicy aioli, wasabi sesame seeds and spicy chili flakes for the ultimate kick and savory flavor. On the side, it comes with Rice (sprinkled with teriyaki sauce & sesame seeds), and Cole Slaw mixed with fresh pineapple bits.
