Maine Lobster Delivery: Lobster Taxi

One of the main reasons for traveling is to experiment with new dining experiences, to learn about different cultures and to try different types of food with the locals. In most of the world, people afford to eat what’s locally grown, caught and raised. For the most part, it’s a lot healthier. There will be little if no preservative or pesticide if local. A steak in France will taste different than a steak in Argentina. Corn in Peru tastes different than corn in the US. Seafood is another example. A lobster in North-East America is different than what you may taste in the Middle-East. Luckily, some of us have the luxury to travel to eat, or simply order it online and have it delivered to your door the next day.

Maine Lobster Delivery

This takes me to my latest discovery of LobsterTaxi.com, an online market started by Hunter Nelson when he was just 15 years old. The clever motto for his Maine Lobster Delivery business is “Maine Today, Yours Tomorrow”. I had the chance to chat with Hunter over the phone to learn more about his company. And was thoroughly impressed by this young Entrepreneur! This was not his first company, as he started his first business at the age of 8!

Hunter has spent his summers with his grandparents in Maine where he tasted the best seafood. Caught and cooked within minutes from the fisherman. This is where his ‘ah-ha moment‘ went off to start this business so that friends and strangers around the country as well as the world could also have access to the deliciousness of a fresh Lobster without necessarily having to travel to Maine on any given day.

Live Maine Lobster + a Variety of other Wild Caught Seafood

He sells live seafood freshly caught from boats in Portland, Maine, delivered straight to your front door overnight. They specialize in Live Maine Lobster weighing 1 lb – 1.5 lb, starting at $11.99 each. They also sell Shellfish: Wild Maine Mussels, Steamer, Fresh Sea Scallops, Damariscotta Oysters and Cocktail Shrimps. Recently, they added a wide variety of seafood specials such as: North Atlantic Salmon, Swordfish, Yellowfin Tuna Sushi-Grade and Maine Haddock. I get hungry just looking through their website, wanting to add all to my cart.

“When buying Maine lobsters at the supermarket anywhere outside of Maine, you do not know how long the lobster has been outside of their natural habitat,” said Nelson. “The difference in taste between Supermarket lobster and Lobster Taxi’s is enormous. If someone has never had Lobster from Maine, they may not ever find out how good they really are.”

My Maine Lobster & Seafood Dinner

While preparing seafood may be intimidating, I have learned that it is easiest to cook compared to most dishes. Seafood in itself has so many rich flavors that you virtually do not need any seasoning to bring out the natural flavors. Maybe a touch of salt, pepper, garlic and voila! If you want to be extra gluttonous, melt some butter to prepare with it or to dip it in.

I have found that cooking a meal like this for loved ones is such a special treat that they will absolutely appreciate. It’s cheaper than going to a restaurant and with much better quality of freshly caught seafood. It’s also a terrific idea for holiday dinners such as Thanksgiving and Christmas just around the corner.

On my first order, I ordered the lobster, clams and mussels. It shipped overnight to my dad’s house. I decided to steam the lobster and make a Spicy Korean Seafood stew out of the Clams and Mussels for our dinner.
