Thinking of traveling abroad but not wanting to quit your job? Thanks to technology, many people sick of the 9-5 are able to work remotely from their laptop. Unsettled is an organized program for 25 young professionals from around the world to meet in 1 location for 1 month. They are provided accommodation in a few work-live spaces. During the month, they meet kindred spirits, travel together while sharing new entrepreneurial ideas with one another. Work and Travel Abroad pretty much sums it all up.

During my trip to Barcelona last October, I decided to look for a vegetarian restaurant as the most popular meal is always incessant amounts of BBQ meat. “Asados” as they call it, I do love, but even my body was craving some chlorophyll. On Lonelyplanet.com, Juevas a La Mesa caught my attention. 2 ladies who also taught yoga at their apartment hosts farm-to-table vegetarian meals every thursday. As the guests arrived sporadically in the first hour, we quickly made friends with a few Argentines as well as Travelers.

1 Month Travel & Work Abroad

6 people at our dining table were part of the Unsettled group in Buenos Aires for the month along with 20 others. Who were they?

  • Young professionals ranging from 25-35 years old:
    • 2 married women (originally from US) from Dubai
    • A couple from South Africa (who work in consulting)
    • 2 young single ladies from USA
    • The rest of the group were from 20 other countries

Applicants can apply on BeUnsettled.co for more information. The team hand-selects those who are interested in co-creating a work culture based on productivity, collaboration, personal growth, and adventure. Idea is to bring people from all over the world who wouldn’t typically meet for a month of cultural understanding: artists, entrepreneurs, designers and developers, executives and explorers.

The Future: Move Your Business Digital

While I have not participated in Unsettled yet, the concept really called to me as my new friends were explaining it to me. In a sense, it’s what I’ve done in the past decade that many people can’t quite understand or grasp. Laying on the beach, unplugging and relaxing is the idea of traveling for many which is great for much-needed vacations. Most of my traveling has been far from relaxing, and I don’t say that in a negative manner but rather positive and progressive. I choose to stay active while traveling so that I can continue to do so over a dozen times a year.

I have taken my work on the road via my cell phone and laptop. My job in Los Angeles is Business Development which means I bring in business by visiting offices and making appointments. While I travel for 1.5 – 2 weeks at a time, I’m managing new and existing business that is coming in. I may not have face time with my clients during that time, but in this modern day age, young professionals care about less face time and more results.
